The course ends with a discussion about some of the unique issues affecting communities in rural and urban areas in developing countries. The aim of the course is to get participants to start thinking about international development in a critical and more knowledgeable manner.

This introductory course uses an issue-based learning approach to examine problems relevant to international health care management. Identifying the basic concepts of international health and applying problem-solving skills to international health issues prepares participants to develop an interdisciplinary approach to international development. Issues explored through discussions, case studies and research include cross-cultural issues, determinants of population health, primary health care strategies, poverty and malnutrition from an international health perspective.

Building on CID610, this fully online course continues to explore international health issues by looking at the needs of specific population groups and situations. These include women and children in the developing world, displaced people, individuals affected by natural and manmade disasters and aboriginals. With an understanding of these issues, participants can begin to plan and manage international health programs in a more efficient, sustainable and holistic manner.

Writing a succinct project proposal is integral to the success of any project, requiring specific skills and knowledge.
